The Directorate of Lifelong Learning (DLL), earlier known as Centre for Adult Continuing Education & Extension (CACEE) established in 1978 with academic status under the University of Kashmir facilitates to bring the change in the lives of the common masses of the region by providing professional, vocational, skill based and job oriented courses, workshops, trainings, seminars, sensitization cum awareness programmes etc. The Directorate endeavors to renew the relevance, interest and economic potential of youth through its vision. Our thrust is also to enable youth to set the income generation units and promoting the professional abilities through required inputs.
The DLL is actively involved in setting up of Career Counseling Cell ( As per UGC XIth Five Year Plan guidelines), Rehabilitation Programme( Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) Approved) and Establishment of Community Development Centers to plan and prepare critical understanding of requirements of maximum population and projection of newer opportunities based on possible intervention.
The Directorate has many advantages when compared to conventional teaching Departments. It focuses on the provision of continuing education for the changing world of work. Thus it provides a series of continuing education courses /trainings/programs to equip the talent with the self employment skills to lead them to be the best entrepreneurs of the future. The Directorate has been playing a major role in focusing the practical needs of the marginalized and weaker section of the society through its diverse outreach programmes thereby developing a meaningful and sustained rapport between the university and the society. It works in agreement with the changing socio-economic scenario of the country as well as with the changing role of the university.
DLL accommodates number of short-term technical and vocational courses with different durations. It conducts various courses in order to equip the students/ unemployed youth with the skills/trainings required for employment in different sectors. It also conducts courses for the employees working in different Government and Non–Government sectors to upgrade their knowledge and skills at various levels. Thus, the Directorate designs and implements need based innovative academic and skill building programs in tune with the changing and emerging needs.
In today’s changing world where each day is witnessing new innovations, inventions and rapid processes of development, it becomes absolutely imperative to adapt, learn and thus enrich our lives to compete in the world of competition. With the diversity in its programmes, the Directorate has focused on counseling programmes for various competitive examinations like AIEEE, JKCET etc. to build capacity and competence among the aspirants in order to face competitive examinations at state and national level.
Similarly, the DLL is providing skill-based, job oriented and income generating courses in various need based trades. It also conducts short term certificate courses in the trades like ; Mobile repairing, CCNA (Module I-II and III-IV), Tally 9.2, Basic computer and internet, Digital photography, Videography, Plumber/ Fitter, Electrician, Maintenance of machines, Networking and Web Designing, Microsoft VB Net, Fashion Designing and Food Processing etc. The Directorate has not only made a breakthrough in the sphere of extension education, but also has taken up major developmental and awareness programmes related to social issues like Human Rights and legal issues, Women /Child related issues, Healthcare programmes and environmental upkeep . DLL also embarked various courses which are job oriented and related to the need of the region in the far-flung areas of valley. In this endeavor the University of Kashmir in harmony and cooperation with respective District administrations of the valley and other agencies of the government/ semi government and non governmental agencies are heading towards defined goals. The Directorate offered diverse and multidimensional programmes that flowed out of the objectives outlined by the UGC in its guidelines. All these objectives are achieved through components like:
